چکیده

We consider compactifications of type II string theory in which a d-dimensional torus is fibered over a base X. In string theory, the transition functions of this fibration need not be simply diffeomorphisms of T d but can involve elements of the T-duality group Spin(d, d,Z). We precisely define the notion of a T-fold with NSNS flux. Given such a T-fold, we define the Z2-graded cohomology theory describing the unquantized RR field strengths and discuss how the data of a T-fold can be interpreted in terms of generalized NSNS fluxes and the twisted differential of Shelton-Taylor-Wecht.

Ramond-ramond Fields, Fractional Branes and Orbifold Differential K-theory

We study D-branes and Ramond-Ramond fields on global orbifolds of Type II string theory with vanishing H-flux using methods of equivariant K-theory and K-homology. We illustrate how Bredon equivariant cohomology naturally realizes stringy orbifold cohomology. We emphasize its role as the correct cohomological tool which captures known features of the low-energy effective field theory, and which...

IIA String Theory on Calabi-Yau Fourfolds with Background Fluxes

Looking for string vacua with fixed moduli, we study compactifications of type IIA string theory on Calabi-Yau fourfolds in the presence of generic Ramond-Ramond fields. We explicitly derive the (super)potential induced by Ramond-Ramond fluxes performing a Kaluza-Klein reduction of the ten-dimensional effective action. This can be conveniently achieved in a formulation of the massive type IIA s...

On the Polarization of Closed Strings by Ramond-Ramond Fluxes

In the Green-Schwarz formalism, the closed string worldsheet of the IIB theory couples to Ramond-Ramond (RR) fluxes through spinor bilinears. We study the effect of such fluxes by analyzing the supersymmetry transformation of the worldsheet in general backgrounds. We show that, in the presence RR fields, the closed string can get ‘polarized’, as the spinors acquire non-zero vevs in directions c...

Quantization of Higher Abelian Gauge Theory in Generalized Differential Cohomology

We review and elaborate on some aspects of the quantization of certain classes of higher abelian gauge theories using techniques of generalized differential cohomology. Particular emphasis is placed on the examples of generalized Maxwell theory and Cheeger–Simons cohomology, and of Ramond–Ramond fields in Type II superstring theory and differential K-theory.

Solitons, Superpotentials and Calibrations

In this paper we study several issues related to the generation of superpotential induced by background Ramond-Ramond fluxes in compactification of Type IIA string theory on Calabi-Yau four-folds. Identifying BPS solitons with D-branes wrapped over calibrated submanifolds in a Calabi-Yau space, we propose a general formula for the superpotential and justify it comparing the supersymmetry condit...
